Miniweb gains girst page slot on Sky Interactive menu

Miniweb, the Interactive Service Provider that is enabling interactivity and targeted, web-style advertising on TV, has announced that its TV Key™ service can now be accessed through the first page of the Interactive menu on Sky Digital, operated by BSkyB. The Miniweb service shares the Sky Interactive Main Menu (Sky IMM) with Sky’s own interactive content and the move further strengthens Miniweb’s TV Key and Key & See services, enabling viewers to access interactive destinations with a remote control, quickly and easily. The Miniweb Interactive Service Platform delivers an alternative ‘red button’ services to all broadcasters in a more cost effective way, allowing viewers on any Sky channel to quickly reach their interactive entertainment content.

Miniweb’s Key & See service is specifically designed for broadcasters, enabling them to embed a TV Key into programme content at any time. This links the show to interactive content, whichever channel it is on, and even when it’s recorded. Viewers enter the TV Key with their remote control and can see the broadcaster's on-line TV Site displayed on the TV screen, without having to leave the broadcast channel. Key & See offers viewers a whole new way to engage with entertainment and information. They can shop, access information, bet, vote and participate in shows, all through the TV, without leaving the channel, programme or the comfort of the sofa.

“Our Interactive Service Platform allows broadcasters to offer a richer and highly cost-effective interactive experience and to monetise viewer actions undertaken through the TV,” said Andrew Carver, CEO, Miniweb Interactive. “Traditional red button interactivity can be expensive, firstly to develop the interactive content and then to deliver it over the broadcast channel. Additionally, red button interactive content is not available when time-shifted on Sky+. The advantage of the Miniweb TV Key is that it links directly to a TV Site which is easily created by repurposing existing web content, providing broadcasters with a new way to generate revenue and engage viewers without the high operational costs associated with past services. Miniweb’s Key & See marks a new era in enhanced programming and interactivity.”

The Miniweb Interactive Service Platform that powers the TV Key service allows not only broadcasters but also network operators, content owners and advertisers to easily and cost effectively deliver new services and business models over broadband. Miniweb enables the creation and delivery of an interactive, converged broadcast and broadband TV experience by uniquely monetising all viewers’ see, search and spend actions. Broadcasters can now use their internet content to provide an interactive TV experience that engages and retains their viewers.
