Sky launches Sky Player TV

Sky has launched Sky Player TV to the consumer. For the first time, UK viewers can now access pay TV content online without the need to subscribe to an existing TV platform.
The service builds on the success of Sky Player which launched in January 2006 as the first legal online movie download service. New Sky Player TV customers can choose from three online subscription packages to suit their needs. In addition to live channels, customers can also enjoy access to some on-demand programming from the channels they subscribe to............................................more



Sky’s Darroch attacks UK broadcast regulations

BSkyB chief executive Jeremy Darroch has hit out at UK broadcasting regulation, claiming that it is marked by "interventionist micro-management." Speaking at a Royal Television Society event, Darroch alleged there is an assumption among media regulators that "change is not just threatening – it’s wrong", adding, "[it seems to be] the task of government and Ofcom to restore the equilibrium - and then preserve it for as long as possible."
However, he argued that maintaining this status quo is not attractive, insisting that "to someone like me, who comes from sectors where progress is driven by relentless, sometimes brutal competition and demanding customers, its attractions seem pretty limited".............................................more
